The Soil Savior: The Fake Passion Project By Staff Writer, Grassroots Faux Correspondent 2026 - Week 37 LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL — Meet Tyler. Tyler is the President of the "Save the Soil Coalition," a grassroots environmental movement with over 2,000 followers on Instagram. Tyler has also never actually touched dirt. "I realized my resume was looking a little... thin," Tyler admitted, while carefully posing with a tiny, dying potted plant for a selfie. "I needed a 'global impact' narrative. Something that said 'I care about the planet' without me actually having to go outside. So, I started the Coalition." Tyler is an Extracurricular Fabricator. He’s part of a growing group of students who believe they have to "invent" a passion to get noticed. His entire contribution to the environment consists of three LinkedIn posts about soil degradation and a green screen of a forest in his bedroom. The problem? Fabricating a fake passion is a full-time job. Tyler spends more time worrying about being "found out" than he does actually studying. When a local paper asked to interview him about "dirt," he broke into a cold sweat because he wasn't sure if dirt was supposed to be wet or dry. At Work In Progmess, we value authenticity. A passion story that is fake is just a lie, and the market (and admissions officers) can usually see right through it. It’s always easier, and way less stressful, to just care about something real, even if it’s small. You don't need to save the soil of the entire planet to be impressive.
